AGR launches weekly TV news show

Move over CBS, ABC, Katie Couric and Brian Williams–there's a new voice in the news. The award-winning Asheville Global Report will now be delivered to homes across WNC with a weekly show on URTV. On Oct. 7, the voice of independent media was forever changed with the introduction of the Asheville Global Report on URTV. In contrast with the commercial priorities of the five media giants that control the news today (and minion Sinclair Broadcasting Group's local WLOS station), this 30-minute weekly broadcast will showcase much of the under- or unreported news that gets swept under the corporate carpet on a disastrous daily basis. This new form of media will take the paper's outstanding and hard-hitting weekly coverage to the next level–the AGR will now be able to show both dedicated readers and new viewers images and video footage conspicuously absent from much of the daily onslaught of the insipid, force-fed propaganda that passes as news on television channels throughout the country. While we will highlight many of the same stories printed in the paper, we'll also feature individual segments on local topics and special issues. What does this mean for the future of independent media? The hope is that AGR-TV, because of the medium, will reach a newer audience than the print version has yet been able to meet. We hope that those who want something different (or those simply prone to channel surfing) may stop at channel 20 and, seeing a friendly face, be inclined to pause for a moment and be treated to real news from the front lines. The show will air for the first time each week on Friday at 6pm, and will be rebroadcast numerous times throughout the week. Visit urtv.org or check cable channel 20 for exact scheduling times. SPECIAL OFFER! Send or PayPal AGR a donation of $50 or more, and we'll gladly send you the first two editions of our new TV program along with a copy of the amazing three-part BBC documentary "The Power Of Nightmares"!
