Early buyers of the Chevrolet Volt electric car could receive a free home-charging station through a program by the U.S. Department of Energy, General Motors announced Thursday. The Volt goes on sale late this year, and 4,400 customers will be eligible for a 240-volt charge station from ECOtality or Coulomb Technologies. In many cases, it will include the cost of home installation. It's all being paid for through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
