No caged doves at peace rallies

Editors, Asheville Global Report, I find it interesting that peace activists think releasing imprisoned doves (pigeons) to sometimes fly off to their deaths is a symbol of peace. The doves spend a good portion of their lives caged. Not all doves come back when released. Some collide with cell-phone towers and power lines, fly into office building windows or are killed by predators. Doves purposely bred to be white are particularly vulnerable to predators because of their lack of natural coloring. Is it all right to exploit these birds to make peace activists feel all warm and fuzzy? These birds are deprived of most everything natural to them so that someone can make money off of their beauty for weddings, funerals and other events. What is peaceful about that?
