A suicide bomber attacked a joint Afghan and NATO military base in southern Afghanistan on Sunday, killing seven US soldiers, an Afghan army commander said. The bomber, who was driving an explosive-filled mini-van, detonated his vehicle close to the base in Zherai district of Kandahar province, general Abdul Hameed, the army commander for southwestern region said. 'Seven US soldiers were killed in the attack and four others were injured,' Hameed told German Press Agency dpa. Several Afghan soldiers were also injured in the blast, with two of them in critical condition. Earlier the Afghan Defence Ministry said in a statement that eight Afghan soldiers were slightly injured in the attack. A wall of the base had collapsed in the blast, burying the soldiers beneath, he said.
